Snowflake bunting

I had some snow flakes left over after all of my other Christmas crafts so I linked a bunch together and turned them into a bunting type chain.

Snowflake picture

I've made a couple of these as gifts now (luckily for people who don't use the internet mwahahaha).

Box frame from Hobbycraft
Blue card from Hobbycraft
Snowflake by me using this pattern

If you're looking for a quick wintery gift they aren't too shabby and I used different colours to go with peoples houses.

Christmas place cards

This year mum asked me to make place cards for Christmas Lunch that matched the Christmas cards I made.

I used place cards from the wedding section on Paperchase and just turned them inside out, did my paint flicking, stuck on snowflakes and then did some pretty shoddy calligraphy (that class I took would be paying off more if I actually practiced more...).

Christmas gift wrapping

All my gift wrapping is now done and they are all stacked in a crate ready to take down south.

I love making things pretty and seeing peoples faces when I hand something over that I have spent time on.

I was inspired by this gift wrap on Pinterest, although I used a toothbrush to flick paint on to brown paper so its a bit more splattery than neat varied circles!

The tags and twine are from Paperchase I just added snowflakes that I'd made (this pattern)
For some I've attached a bow (pattern here) which I've stuck on a hair clip.

I used white calligraphy ink and my pen to finish up the tags!

Watching, reading, listening

Christmas films!

  • The Apartment - one of my favourite films
  • Elf - the best Christmas film
  • Love Actually - my housemates cried. I did not (not sure if this is because I am now dead inside, I have seen it too many times, or they were just really hungover)
  • Still to come - It's a Wonderful Life, White Christmas and Scrooged

I started to read #Girlboss and it was awful, the writing is just poor. It was cheap on kindle but I should have still known not to buy a book with # in the title.
I've been reading a lot of Joel Golby who's high class journalism includes:

Also I think he is the male equivalent of one of my friends and one day they will marry.

It's Christmas song time!

Christmas holidays

With not long to go until the big day posting has gone a bit out of the window. Most things have to be honest. I'm currently sat at my laptop watching Kirstie's Homemade Christmas on catch up for inspiration even though I'm not going to have any time to make any more things...

But anyway. Here are some photos from when mum and I went to Bath a couple of weeks ago...

Apparently I have been to Bath before but I don't remember because I was at most 1 (it was before my brother was born). The weather was a bit shoddy but Bath is gorgeous so it didn't matter at all.

There was so much Jane Austen stuff going on it was weird... BATH ISN'T EVEN IN MANY OF THE BOOKS... coming from Hampshire (where she lived and died) it was very odd to me. That said Persuasion is set there and it's my fav.

The markets were amazing but by Friday (we went Wednesday to Friday) it was a bit too busy for me. I recommend going in the week - not just because it's cheaper.

Mum and I ate lots and talked lots and I spent lots. It was a good time.

Anyway expect more random posts up until the New Year when things will get back to a routine.

Watching, reading, listening

Hunger Games: Pretty good, nice wrap up of the story.
People Places Things which is a lovely film about a great dad trying to get over a break up. I really liked it. Plus, Jermaine!

TV wise if I'm honest I've mainly been watching made for TV Christmas movies because they are brilliantly bad.

The Chimes: nice teen dystopian novel about memories, music, love and religion.
White Tiger: Booker Prize winner from a while back, I really liked the narrative style.

Experiments in blogging: Pinterest

My favourite of all the social media platforms!

Apparently this can do wonders for driving people to your blog but the only one of my pins that does crazy well is a photo of my aunts dog! So, I've looked around and gathered some tips!

Off Pinterest:

  • Add Pinterest link to the blog sidebar
  • Create new images at the right size then upload and add a link
  • Add keywords to image file name
On Pinterest:
  • Update profile
  • Use to see who's pinning your posts
  • Pin what you read and @people when pinning from their blog
  • Add keywords to board name and description as well as pins
  • Delete unpopular pins if you don't need them
  • Use vertical images
  • Move the boards on your profile around

Christmas decorations

The decorations in my room are now up. We're waiting for the annual Caitlin and Carys Christmas Craft Day (we are the coolest right...) before we put the ones in the living room up.

wreath info here, red fairy lights (seen in mirror) from Paperchase

Bunting here, cushion made by me, blanket made by me (more here) stars from here

I only have a very little tree in my room (from John Lewis a couple of years ago) but it's up now too.

Christmas bunting

Pretty simple this one - crochet flags with backstitch trees and snowflakes on crochet chain stitched together.

Chain 3, 2dc into first stitch, turn.
For all following rows :
Chain two, 1dc into top of last dc, dc into top of each until the on remains - 2dc into last, turn.

Continue until you reach the size you would like.
